Creatively Helping Our Kids

The Head Start and Early Head Start Programs at Community Action Agency of Siouxland had to close on March 16 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but our teachers and staff worked hard with each family to help kids keep up their learning with educational packets.  Kids received new books, arts and craft projects and information to help their emotional, mental and physical well being.

We are so grateful to everyone for making these packets possible.  Since March, we have distributed nearly 2,500 packets to our children.

Visiting Our Families Virtually

So many of our families have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.  Our Early Childhood Home Visitor Program and Family Development Self-Sufficiency Program (FaDSS) staff met virtually each week with our families to check on their well being and make sure they were getting what they needed. While working with one of our families they said one of the most challenging things was transportation.  With limited access, it was hard to get to work. However, after applying for funds at Community Action Agency, she was able to purchase a bicycle.  Now this mother and son are able to bike safety where they need to go, all the while staying healthy and saving money on transportation costs.  Find out more about our services ››
